Our work is to grow the finest grapes, so that talented winemakers can make memorable wines.
Besides this goal, our vineyard serves as a place to bring together family and friends. To drink fine wine. To enjoy each other's company and good cheer.
To facilitate that, and to better understand the artistry of the winemakers, we make a barrel or two for ourselves and friends, and share it during visits in all seasons.
We first tried our hand (in the early 1990's) at planting a vineyard in the Sierra foothills, to grow vines to blend a classic Bordeaux. We learned some basics about viticulture and oenology. And we made terrible wine.
We learned a bit more as members of The Napa Valley Reserve, with a few dedicated rows of grapes and the tutelage of Bill Harland's winemakers. These used the Bengier Estate label. The wines were much better.
Now we blend with the fine help of Steve Matthiasson. These use the Bengier Family Vineyards label. We think the wines are even better.
Cheers!

Astronomy in the vineyards inspires us to note words of wisdom from Galileo Galilei:
The sun, with all the planets revolving around it and dependent on it, can still ripen a bunch of grapes as if it had nothing else in the universe to do.
